Set up as a chamber orchestra 50 years ago, the Hallam Sinfonia's repertoire nowadays extends from the baroque to the 21st century, including large-scale romantic works, and from the mainstream classics to film music and children's concerts. We also enjoy collaborations: we have a partnership with Hallam Choral Society, with whom we work at least once a year, and have performed with other groups in the city.

Metamorphosen Reflections
Some Hallam Sinfonia projects take years to come to fruition – our concert built around Richard Strauss’s Metamorphosen is one of these. In 2019, fired up by Strauss’s Four Last Songs, the orchestra’s cello-playing Strauss enthusiasts dreamed about playing this unique work, with its 23 independent string parts – 10 violins, five each of violas and cellos, three basses.
